Nurse who battled COVID-19 now helps others with care packages. Saturday, she got a special surprise

Santana Sims is now back at work while also helping get care packages to other nurses in the Atlanta area.

ATLANTA — She's a nurse who's been working on the front lines of the pandemic -- even coming to throws with the virus herself.

"Santana became ill and she was quarantined for five days. As soon as she got a test result of negative ... she got back up and went right back in to take care of patients," one person stated.

But Santana Sims is now back at work while also helping get care packages to other nurses in the Atlanta area.

On Saturday, family and friends wanted to show her that her actions don't go unnoticed. Photojournalist Charles Holmes was there as they surprised her with a parade of applause for everything she is doing for nurses and patients.

She was in shock.

"Thank you for recognizing what we do as healthcare providers," Sims said.

One person told Sims, "You are my shero."
