Senator Lankford Statement of Support for Energy Independence

WASHINGTON, DC –

Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today issued the following statement in response to the Executive Order signed by President Trump to promote energy infrastructure and economic growth:

“I am pleased President Trump continues to take an active approach to reduce burdens on North American energy independence through the latest Executive Orders,” said Lankford. “The US should continue to explore as many forms of energy as possible to power our nation, and our energy producers should continue to be able to innovate in the ways they work to safely extract, transport and bring their products to the market. The southern leg of the Keystone XL pipeline has been complete for five years, and it continues to supply our southern coast with a safe way to move crude oil for use in the US and abroad. The Obama Administration stonewalled the northern leg of the pipeline through administrative red tape at every turn. I am glad this Administration is doing everything possible to work with all the parties involved to get this project finalized at long last.”

Last December, Lankford joined 43 Members of Congress in a letter to President Trump urging him to take necessary action to move forward on the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline after a federal judge issued a decision that blocked its construction in November 2018. In 2015, Lankford spoke on the Senate floor in support of pro-growth, fact-based energy policy.
