Senator Lankford Supports NDAA Conference Report

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) made the following statement today in support of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Report (S. 2943), which passed the Senate by a vote of 92 to 7:

“I’m pleased that Congress has passed a responsible bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act, which gives our military the funding and direction it needs to protect our national security. Providing for the defense of our nation is one of Congress’ most important responsibilities. With international instability and conflict on the rise, it is important to ensure that our men and women in uniform have what they need to keep us safe and protect our freedom. I’m pleased that this bill supports the Air Force’s KC-46A Tanker program in Oklahoma, increases depot maintenance, supports facility modernization, and it prevents the closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.”

This bill does not include a provision, that existed in previous versions, that would require women to register for military Selective Service. In September, Lankford and Senator Jim Inhofe asked Congressional conferees of the Senate and House Armed Services Committees to remove this provision.
