Senator Lankford Applauds Announcement to Strengthen US Cybersecurity

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today issued the following statement following the Administration’s announcement of the National Cyber Strategy:

“It is good for the US to finally have a National Cyber Strategy in place to work to secure critical networks, effectively deter and respond to bad actors, and protect our economy while promoting a free and open internet,” said Lankford. “I thank the Administration for its work to put this strategy in place to protect the American people from future cyberattacks and threats. This has been a significant need for years.”

Last month, Lankford testified before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism during a hearing entitled “Cyber Threats to Our Nation’s Critical Infrastructure.” During the hearing, he pushed for the US to put in place a policy for responding to cyberattacks. Lankford also introduced a bipartisan bill in March 2018, the Secure Elections Act, to strengthen election cybersecurity in America. Lankford introduced a bipartisan bill to safeguard national security from supply-chain security threats. The Federal Acquisition Supply Chain Security Act (FASCA) of 2018 was introduced following the national security issues with the use of Kaspersky and ZTE products.

Lankford is a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
