HILL, ALL LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS SERVED AS A DELEGATE IN WASHINGTON, D.C., LAST NIGHT. THE HEARST FOUNDATION’S U.S. SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM HOSTED ITS YEARLY SENATE RECEPTION. MADISON COYNE OF OVERLAND PARK GOT TO TAKE PART IN THIS WEEKLONG PROGRAM. SHE GOES TO BLUE VALLEY, WEST HIGH SCHOOL, AND MADISON MET WITH SUPREME COURT JUSTICE SONIA SOTOMAYOR AND KANSAS SENATOR JERRY MORAN. SHE SAYS HER TALK WITH THE SENATOR WAS INSPIRED TO TALK TO THE LAW ABOUT HIS HOPE FOR KANSAS, THE FUTURE, AND HOW THE YOUNG GENERATION IS GOING TO INSPIRE OR HOW WE ARE GOING TO INSPIRE THE YOUNG GENERATION TO MAKE KANSAS A BETTER PLACE. AND THAT WAS SOMETHING THAT REALLY HIT HOME FOR ME BECAUSE I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BECOME A ACTIVIST AND A POLITICIAN AND A LEADER IN KANSAS AND HOW GREAT THE HEARST CORPORATION IS THE PARENT COMPA

A local high school student served this week as a delegate in Washington D.C. The Hearst Foundation's U.S. Senate Youth Program hosted its annual Senate reception on Wednesday night. Madison Coyne of Overland Park was one of the students taking part in the week-long program. She's a Blue Valley West High School student. Delegates met with their U.S. Senators and experienced events reaching all three branches of government.
