Blackburn Seeks to Protect Medicaid block grants for Tennessee

February 4, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R—Tenn.) introduced a measure designed to protect Tennesseans’ health care choices.

“A one size fits all approach to health care does not work,” said Senator Blackburn. “Tennessee is a proven leader in delivering better quality health care to the most vulnerable Americans. I will fight against the Biden administration’s ability to take health care options away from Tennesseans.”

BACKGROUND

S.AMDT.178 will protect Americans’ ability to choose the health care they want, need, and can afford. It protects Tennessee’s recent decision to secure a waiver from the federal government in order to have more control over Tenncare by way of a block grant.

The Biden Administration has hinted at axing Medicaid block grants, which was recently approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
