Baltimore Police are investigating numerous shootings over the past 24 hours that left five killed and three people wounded, including a 14-year-old girl, Thursday.

In the latest incident, Western District officers were in the 800 block of W. Lexington Street at 8:52 p.m. when they heard gunfire, according to a news release shortly before midnight.

While canvassing the area, they were dispatched to a courtyard in the 800 block of W. Lexington St. where they found a 25-year-old male who had been shot in the head. Medics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Homicide detectives responded out and assumed control of the investigation.

Just before 5:30 p.m., Eastern District officers were called to the 1700 block of E. North Ave. for a shooting.

Officers arrived in the South Clifton Park neighborhood and found a 14-year-old girl who had been shot in her right leg. Police said the teen was transported to an area hospital and is in “good” condition.

A handful of investigators stood beside the crime scene tape that cordoned off the block, stretching down North Regester Street.

Inside the tape were mostly vacant buildings, with the exception of New Echelon Hair. Less than 50 feet from the salon lay a few crime scene markers and a red dirt bike thrown on its side.

Mayor Brandon Scott tweeted: “I don’t care what it is over no dispute that starts at a beauty salon should end in a 14 year old being shot. And every grown person who saw and knows what happened should be lining up to tell us. It could have been your daughter, sister or granddaughter.”

About the same time, officers were also responding to the 1600 block of Ashburton St. for a ShotSpotter alert.

Police said they found a 38-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his torso inside his car in the Coppin Heights/Ash-Co-East neighborhood.

Upon arrival, officers located a 38-year-old man inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds to his torso. He died at the scene, police said.

At approximately 1:09 p.m., officers responded to the 3700 block of West Belvedere Ave. in the Arlington neighborhood of Northwest Baltimore for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

The man was taken to an area hospital where he died, police said.

Late Wednesday night, Eastern District patrol officers responded to the 1500 block of N. Broadway in East Baltimore’s Oliver neighborhood for a shooting around 11:26 p.m. Responding officers found Georgio Johnson, 33, unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, police said.

Johnson was taken to an area hospital, where he later died, according to police.

Just over an hour later, officers responded to a ShotSpotter gunfire detection alert in the 800 block of Glover St. near the McElderry Park neighborhood in East Baltimore.

Officers found three victims: a 30-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, all suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

All the victims were taken to the hospital, where the 31-year-old man was later pronounced dead. The other two victims are listed in stable condition, police said.

Baltimore has seen 82 killings this year, eight more than at the same time last year, according to Baltimore police homicide data.
