WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa today attended an address by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, before a joint meeting of Congress.

“It’s always an honor to help welcome the leader of a foreign nation to speak before Congress,” Grassley said. “President Macron spoke about the future of U.S.-French relations based on our historical closeness. From the Revolutionary War to the Allied efforts in World War II, the French have been friends to the United States. That friendship continues to this day. It’s because of cooperation between free and democratic nations since 1945 that we’ve prevented a third world war. But as President Macron said, peace and freedom aren’t guaranteed. The United States and France are fortunate to have centuries of mutual friendship that continue today under President Trump and President Macron. ”
