Manchin Announces $424K to Digitize West Virginia University Archives and Enhance West Virginia Mine Wars Museum

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $424,571 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to help digitize historical documents at the West Virginia University Research Corporation and create a multi-format interpretative tour of the 1921 Coal Mine Wars at the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum.

 

“Preserving West Virginia history is vital to honoring our past and helping us tell our story for future generations. I’m pleased the NEH is supporting these two projects that will expand opportunities for residents to learn about our rich, cultural heritage and tell the important story of the coal miners who marched 50 miles from Marmet to Blair Mountain for workers’ rights during the 1921 West Virginia Mine Wars. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources that deepen our understanding of West Virginia’s history and traditions,” said Senator Manchin.
