Manchin Announces American Rescue Plan Funding For West Virginia Mine Wars Museum

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $24,656 from the American Rescue Plan to West Virginia Mine Wars Museum in Matewan. The funding is allocated through the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) and will support the museum as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The American Rescue Plan continues to be a lifeline for many museums struggling to keep their doors open and serve their community due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding from the American Rescue Plan is great news for our entire state because the museum documents an important piece of West Virginia history while providing educational and cultural opportunities to West Virginians and tourists visiting the Mountain State. I will continue to advocate for funding to help museums and other West Virginia organizations succeed as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Senator Manchin.

The funding from the American Rescue Plan will be used to expand community partnerships, preserve Sid Hatfield’s Historic apartment, and develop new programming activities to draw tourists to the region.
