Manchin Announces More Than $28 Million From American Rescue Plan For Affordable Housing In West Virginia

Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced $28,290,754 for affordable housing programs in West Virginia. The awards are funded through the American Rescue Plan and distributed through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

“Every West Virginian deserves to have a roof over their head and a warm place to sleep. The COVID-19 pandemic has placed additional burdens on many West Virginians due to high unemployment, unstable living conditions and job insecurity, making access to affordable housing more important than ever,” said Senator Manchin. “This funding from the American Rescue Plan is great news for West Virginia and will help provide affordable housing throughout the state. I will continue to advocate for funding and resources to help address homelessness and ensure everyone has a roof over their head in the Mountain State.”

Senator Manchin fought to include funding to address homelessness in the American Rescue Plan. His bipartisan amendment to create a new, dedicated emergency funding stream through the U.S. Department of Education to help schools identify and assist students experiencing homelessness due to the COVID-19 pandemic passed the Senate unanimously. Additionally, Senator Manchin fought to include $152 million for emergency rental assistance in West Virginia and $38.5 million for Low Income Home Emergency Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
