Manchin Applauds Extension Of Special Enrollment Period, Encourages West Virginians To Apply For Coverage

Washington, DC –Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) applauded President Biden’s announcement that access to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Special Enrollment Period is extended until August 15th, 2021.

“As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, many West Virginians have lost their healthcare coverage through no fault of their own and are facing economic uncertainty. I’m am pleased the Biden Administration extended the ACA Special Enrollment Period by three months to give Americans more time to apply for health insurance. I encourage West Virginians without health insurance coverage to visit healthcare.gov to find a plan that works for you and your family before the August 15th deadline,” said Senator Manchin.

At the end of January, Senator Manchin applauded President Biden’s executive order to open the ACA for a special enrollment period to allow Americans impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to apply for healthcare coverage. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Senator Manchin urged the Trump Administration to reopen ACA enrollment to help West Virginians impacted by the pandemic apply for health insurance. In August of 2020, Senator Manchin called on the Trump Administration to create a special enrollment period, but the Administration did not take action.
