Manchin, Capito Announce $5.8 Million For Mothers And Children In West Virginia

Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $5,885,415 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) for the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program in West Virginia.

“The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has made caring for children much more difficult, and many West Virginia mothers and children need support,” said Senator Manchin. “This funding will help families across West Virginia learn how to care for their children and receive the support they need through the home visiting program. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to push for funding that supports our mothers and children through this pandemic.”

“Our mothers and children in West Virginia need our full support, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our lives,” said Senator Capito. “The Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program addresses so many of the needs of families in the state.  In particular, its focus on maternal health is vital.  I continue to work with bipartisan colleagues to combat the ongoing maternal mortality crisis in the United States and was proud to introduce the Maternal Mortality Accountability Act and see it signed into law by President Trump in 2018.  We must continue to strengthen our efforts in this field and ensure that our mothers, children, and families receive the services, support and care they need.”
