Manchin, Capito Announce $800,000 for Coalfield Development Corporation

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $800,000 from the U. S. Department Health and Human Services (HHS) Community Economic Development Program. This funding will be used by the Coalfield Development Corporation in their efforts to construct rental cabins, a conference center, a wellness center, and make improvements to a vacant development site designed to provide a rustic Appalachian resort destination.

“West Virginia’s growing tourism industry is vital to bringing visitors to our state and building our local economies. I’m proud to support Coalfield Development Corporation’s efforts, and this investment to develop a resort destination in southern West Virginia is great news for the region. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for funding to encourage business development and sustain economic growth in our wild and wonderful state,” Senator Manchin said.

“West Virginia’s proximity to major metropolitan areas helps our state serve as a respite for those within the cities. I commend Coalfield Development Corporation on their HighWall project initiative in Mingo County, and was proud to write a letter of support to HHS last July. This project has to potential to create new jobs and local business investments, and I look forward to the impact it will make in West Virginia,” Senator Capito said.
