Manchin, Capito Announce Funding for Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System in West Virginia

Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $160,020 for a Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) within the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). This funding was made available through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and will provide resources that reduce health problems among mothers and babies.

“The Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System helps improve the health of mothers and their children by gathering information about pregnancy in West Virginia,” Senator Manchin said.  “I’m pleased HHS is investing in West Virginia and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding and resources to support the health and wellbeing of our mothers and children in the Mountain State.”

“Our nation continues to see unacceptable levels of maternal mortality. This funding will help West Virginia continue to address this important issue and improve the health of mothers and infants. The PRAMS initiative goes above and beyond similar programs, and I look forward to the impact it will make in our state,” Senator Capito said.
