Manchin, Capito Announce More Than $1.2 Million For Rural Development And Wastewater Investment Across West Virginia

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,213,675 for organizations across West Virginia through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Business Development Grants and Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants.

“Rural businesses, including the many that call West Virginia home, work incredibly hard to invest in their local communities and support the local and state economies. I am proud to see these organizations in West Virginia receive funding to continue their great work across our state. The USDA is also investing in Welch to update and expand their wastewater system which will benefit the citizens of Welch by expanding the treatment centers to access more members of the community. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for West Virginia to receive funding that benefits our communities and our people,” said Senator Manchin.

“Businesses in smaller, more rural states like West Virginia can have difficulty saving for bigger project goals while keeping up with day-to-day costs. This grant money will be used to help buy equipment, hire and train new employees, expand business outreach, and more. Funds will also support Welch’s wastewater infrastructure, a critical part of a keeping communities safe and healthy. When our local businesses and homes are thriving, our entire state grows. I’m glad USDA recognizes this and is investing in West Virginia,” said Senator Capito.
