WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) today released the following statement after a phone call with FDA Commissioner Dr. Hahn regarding the newly released data from the 2020 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) and the latest actions taken by the FDA to curb youth e-cigarette use:
“I am encouraged by the National Youth Tobacco Survey’s findings which show that 1.8 million fewer youth are using e-cigarettes this year than last. However, the reality is that we still have more than 3.6 million youth who are using e-cigarettes and the number of kids using disposable devices remains high. I discussed these concerns today in a call with FDA Commissioner Dr. Hahn, and I am encouraged that the FDA is taking ongoing steps to curb youth use, including issuing new measures to remove unauthorized vaping products from the market. However, I continue to believe that flavors should be banned from vape products and disposable e-cigarettes, and I plan to keep pushing for that action at the federal level.”
