President Trump was acquitted by the Republican majority Senate Wednesday afternoon.

In December 2019, the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives voted to impeach the president.

The two articles of impeachment had charged the president with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Florida Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio both voted not guilty on the two articles.

“Finally. I’m glad that charade is over. Let’s get back to work,” Sen. Scott said in a statement following the trial vote.

Last week, Sen. Rubio put out a statement regarding his decision to vote against additional witnesses, as well as his vote against removing the president from office.

“I will not vote to remove the President because doing so would inflict extraordinary and potentially irreparable damage to our already divided nation,” Rubio said.
