Florida, Georgia leaders respond to President Trump nomination of Judge Amy Barrett

WASHINGTON — President Trump announced his nomination choice for Supreme Court today.

His chosen nominee is Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

Following the announcement of his choice came many statements from leaders in Florida and Georgia.

U.S. Senator David Purdue released the following statement, “Georgians want a Supreme Court that applies the law, not makes the law. Judge Amy Coney Barrett is an outstanding choice to serve on our nation’s highest court.”

Senator Rick Scott said, "I applaud President Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. I am one of the few senators who has appointed people to the bench, and I believe in selecting candidates who respect the separation of powers and the proper role of the judiciary in our democratic system. Their job isn’t to make policy – it is to uphold the rule of law.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio "Judge Barrett is a well-qualified, highly respected nominee, and that’s why the Senate previously confirmed her. She is also a person who is strong in her faith. Sadly, I expect my Democratic colleagues and the radical left to do all they can to assassinate her character and once again make an issue of her faith during her confirmation process.

Congressman Earl L. “Buddy” Carter “Unfortunately, even before the President named his nominee tonight, Democrats already started the blind attacks. I am confident that President Trump and Senate Republicans will not be held hostage by the Democrat’s radical threats and they will move to confirm Judge Barrett in a thorough and timely manner.”
