On Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., said he will donate his fourth quarter Senate salary to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in Chicago.

For more than 100 years, Mercy Home has worked to provide children and families with healing and tools to build brighter futures, and give children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or violence a safe home, educational support and career guidance.

“I have been blessed to live the American Dream and it has given me the opportunity to donate my salary every quarter to deserving charities,” Scott said. “This quarter, I will be donating my salary to Mercy Home in Chicago. The organization provides a safe home to children who have experienced abuse and neglect. I unfortunately learned about this charity through tragedy. My friend, Alex Castellanos, tragically and suddenly lost his son, Alexander, in October. Mercy Home is an organization Alexander worked with before his passing and my wife, Ann, and I are incredibly proud to honor his life by supporting this charity. I cannot imagine the immense pain of losing a child, and Ann and I continue to keep Alex, Susan and Catherine in our thoughts and prayers.”

Scott donated his Senate salary for the third quarter of the year to the Neighborhood Health Clinic in Southwest Florida.

Scott was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018 after serving two terms as governor of Florida.
