Rick Scott prays for Venezuela at Western Wall

Sen. Rick Scott said that he prayed for regime change in Venezuela during a visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

“Today, I visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem to pray for an end to Nicolás Maduro’s evil regime and genocide in #Venezuela,” the Florida Republican said Wednesday on Twitter. The Western Wall, which remains the last physical remnant of the Temple, is considered the holiest place in Judaism.

Scott’s prayer comes as the Venezuelan dictator said he wants to meet with President Trump claiming the U.S. and Venezuela held two “secret meetings.” The U.S. government has stated the Maduro regime is illegitimate and that opposition leader Juan Guaidó is the rightful head of the country.

Scott, 66, has been in Israel this week to meet with Israeli leaders on the country’s “economic and strategic relationship” to the U.S.

Scott also took aim at Palestine during the visit, while praising Israel.

“As I continue to travel Israel, the contrast could not be more clear. Israel is a vibrant democracy that supports capitalism, champions human rights and holds free and open elections,” Scott said Wednesday. “Conversely, Palestine had their last election for president in 2005, refuses to hold open and free elections, and fails to champion human rights. The United States must always align with those fighting for freedom and democracy, and stand up against those that do not respect human rights.”

Scott’s visit follows Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan’s ban from Israel a week ago because of their support for the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement.
