‘Willfully parroted propaganda’: Rick Scott demands congressional investigation into World Health Organization

.

Sen. Rick Scott wants answers about the World Health Organization’s response to the coronavirus and its relationship with China.

The WHO, which is a product of the United Nations, has been criticized for echoing claims by China that turned out to be false and could have led to a more disastrous outbreak of the coronavirus. Scott, a Florida Republican, asked that Congress investigate the organization’s response to the pandemic.

“The mission of the WHO is to get public health information to the world so every country can make the best decisions to keep their citizens safe. When it comes to Coronavirus, the WHO failed. They need to be held accountable for their role in promoting misinformation and helping Communist China cover up a global pandemic,” Scott wrote.

He continued: “We know Communist China is lying about how many cases and deaths they have, what they knew and when they knew it – and the WHO never bothered to investigate further. Their inaction cost lives.”

Scott included several examples of the WHO “acting as pawn for Communist China,” including the organization’s promotion of a study from the Chinese Communist Party claiming that coronavirus could not spread from person-to-person contact, which turned out to be dangerously false. The organization also refused to listen to warnings from Taiwan about the coronavirus because it is not a member of the United Nations and China does not recognize its sovereignty.

Scott argued that funding to the WHO should be cut if the organization proves to be biased toward China in a manner that cost American lives. He called for a full investigation as soon as Congress fully returns to work.

“As soon as Congress is back in session, there should be a hearing, along with a full investigation, to review whether American taxpayers should continue to spend millions of dollars every year to fund an organization that willfully parroted propaganda from the Chinese Communist Party,” Scott wrote.
