Sen. Scott says fuel service will add jobs at Port Canaveral
DAN: FOR EXAMPLE, IT COULD BE SPENT ON GETTING FUEL ON SHIPS MORE EFFICIENTLY INTO THE PORT SO IT CAN BE PUT INTO BIG TANKER TRUCKS WHICH DISTRIBUTED EVERY DAY FROM THE PORT, 2.5 MILLION GALLONS WORTH EVERY DAY. THE FUEL INDUSTRY IS NOT SOMETHING THE PORT IS KNOWN FOR, BUT SENATOR SCOTT SAYS A BOOST TO AN INDUSTRY LIKE THIS IS A BOOST FOR JOBS. FEDERALLY FUNDED DREDGING OF PORT CANAVERAL’S CHANNEL ISN’T EXACTLY A GLAMOROUS UNDERTAKING, BUT IT MADE POSSIBLE THE RECENT VISIT OF A HUGE TANKER, MORE THAN 3 FOOTBALL FIELDS LONG, DELIVERING FUEL. >> THE VESSEL HELD OVER 25 MILLION GALLONS, AND ARRIVED JUST IN TIME TO SATISFY THIS YEAR’S RECORD-SETTING SPRING BREAK JET FUEL DEMAND AT THE AIRPORTS. DAN: U.S. SENATOR RICK SCOTT SAYS JOBS IN THE FUEL DELIVERY BUSINES ARE ONE REASON HE’S WORKING FOR MORE MONEY FOR FLORIDA SEAPORTS. HE SAID TODAY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RECENTLY PROMISED FLORIDA 140 MILLION DOLLARS FO PORT IMPROVEMENTS, BUT NEVER APPROPRIATED THE MONEY. >> NOW IT’S MY JOB AS US SENATOR -- U.S. SENATOR TO GET THAT MONEY BACK. DAN: HE ALSO WANTS MORE MONEY FOR FEDERAL AGENTS TO KEEP OUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND CONTRABAND. >> I’VE MET WITH CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION BOTH IN DC AND ALONG OUR BORDER. WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO FUND THAT TO KEEP US SAFE. DAN: HE SAYS HE HOPES HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP WILL HELP. >> I REPRESENT FLORIDA. AND EVERY TIME I TALK TO THE PRESIDENT, I TELL HIM, MY JOB IS TO REPRESENT THE STATE OF FLORIDA. I AM GOING TO BE VERY AGGRESSIVE IN DOING IT. DAN: THE SENATOR SAYS DURING HIS TIME AS GOVERNOR DURING THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION, THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WAS NOT A GREAT PARTNER WHEN IT CAME TO SEAPORTS, AND HE’S WORKING
