Lawmakers from both sides made comments on points made by President Donald Trump, as well as the polarizing moments surrounding the speech.“It kind of started off very interesting when the Speaker of the House extended her hand to the president and he refused to shake her hand,” said Rep. Val Demings (D).Demings also told WESH 2 News that she did not feel that some of the president's remarks were truthful.The contentious moment after the speech, when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripped up the president’s speech, has Florida’s Republican lawmakers talking.“Jobs, security, health care & the education of their children is what matters to people in the real world. Not the silly temper tantrums of socialists & radicals on the left,” Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted Wednesday morning.“Incredible speech by @realDonaldTrump. And typically petty reaction from @SpeakerPelosi,” Sen. Rick Scott tweeted.Rep. Michael Waltz appreciated the moments the president took to honor those who serve, like one soldier reuniting with his family after his deployment.“Those are, I think, incredibly important for the president to highlight, highlighting the fact that at the end of the day, we're all Americans,” Waltz said.Rep. Darren Soto (D) took issue with what the president did not say, namely, that he did not mention the earthquakes in Puerto Rico.“Our fellow Americans have endured unspeakable tragedy.
