Two Republican senators, Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, were among 45 Republicans to acquit former president Donald Trump on charges of inciting the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

On Saturday, the vote came back as 57-43 with seven Republicans joining all 50 Democrats for Trump's second impeachment trial.

Senator Rick Scott released a statement following the acquittal of former president Donald Trump mentioning "what we witnessed on Jan. 6 was horrific" naming those involved "lawless thugs" that should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Also adding that "instead of addressing the serious issues facing our nation, Democrats in Congress put our work for the American people on hold and pushed forward with an unconstitutional impeachment trial," said Senator Rick Scott.

Senator Marco Rubio released a statement in his support of former President Donald Trump, as well.

Senator Rubio agreed with the lead House Manager that "the trial was not about Donald Trump but about the country. "

"In the 244 year history of our Republic we have never convicted and disqualified a former official in an impeachment trial. Doing so now would create a new precedent. And it would weaponize impeachment in a way we will come to regret," said Senator Rubio.
