Sen. Rick Scott: Washington is Broken. I’m Fighting Like Hell to Fix it & Preserve the American Dream

December 3, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following yesterday’s votes in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate to pass another Continuing Resolution (CR), Senator Rick Scott released the below statement slamming the continued failure of Congress to fulfill its most basic duty and pass a budget that addresses the needs of American families.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Yesterday, the United States Congress failed the American people once again. Instead of doing its job and passing a budget, a Democrat-controlled Congress passed another Continuing Resolution, patted itself on the back for a job not done and walked away. The American people need to understand that passing a CR does NOTHING to address the problems before us – it simply continues funding for last year’s priorities, keeping America in the past. Continuing to narrowly avoid government shutdowns isn’t a sign of success, it’s the clearest example of total failure we see in Washington. Passing a budget is one of the most basic and fundamental duties of Congress, yet year after year, it fails to live within its means and deliver for American families. It’s an unacceptable failure that must end.

“You can’t make up the insanity of what Congress is doing. Here in Washington, tired politicians keep pushing the same broken mindset: fuel reckless spending, ignore rising inflation and write off excuses when they can’t show up and do the job they were elected for. It’s shameful. That’s why I’ve been fighting to pass my No Budget, No Pay bill with Senator Mike Braun so that when Congress fails to do its job, members don’t get paid. That’s how the real world works and Washington shouldn’t be any different. When I ran to represent the great State of Florida in the U.S. Senate, I did so on a plan to make Washington work for Florida families and I’ve fought every day to bring some sense to the dysfunction here in D.C. It’s clear we still have our work cut out for us, but I’ll never stop fighting like hell to fix it.”

Since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has repeatedly urged action to address America’s debt crisis and the harmful effects of inflation:
