Sen. Rick Scott to Host ‘Make Washington Work’ Roundtable in Panama City

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - In a recent press release, Senator Rick Scott announced he will continue his statewide ‘Make Washington Work Tour’ in Panama City by hosting a roundtable discussion with military, veteran and economic leaders to hear about their efforts to make Florida’s Panhandle the best place for our military, veterans and their families to succeed. The roundtable took place Tuesday, January 17 at 9:15 a.m. at the Bay County Chamber of Commerce in Panama City.

The Republican senator says he is committed to supporting those who have served and their families.

“We’re going to make sure our military bases are fully funded,” said Scott. We’re going to work to make sure our military members get adequate housing, they get great childcare, they get great healthcare benefits, and they are respected.”

Senator Scott discussed his work as U.S. Senator and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee to support Florida’s military bases, members, veterans and families, and make our nation the most lethal military force in the nation. This includes several major wins Senator Scott fought for and secured in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act.

Additionally, Senator Scott highlighted what he is fighting for in the U.S. Senate for Florida families and previewed his legislative priorities for the 118th Congress.

A top issue was government overspending.

“This inflation caused by this unbelievable spending. Congress is spending so quickly it’s causing this massive inflation; it’s making it difficult for people to make a living. It hurts the poor the most because their income is not staying up with inflation right now.,” Scott said. “Right now, the big issue is we have to get government to be more accountable. So, if we are going to have a program such as Medicare let’s make sure that it works, it’s an efficient use of your money, but you actually get healthcare benefits.”

Community members in attendance to the roundtable also spoke out against several issues including housing for military families, offshore drilling and good childcare.

Carol Roberts is the president of Bay County Chamber of Commerce. She said it feels great to let her voice be heard.

“It is truly an honor that an elected federal official takes the opportunity to come to meet with their constituents,” said Roberts. “We were honored to host the senator today and we will always welcome him back.”

Senator Scott said over the last few weeks he has been traveling across the Sunshine State to hear from Florida leaders on how to better Make Washington Work for families, end the dysfunctional status quo that’s led to 31 trillion dollars in federal debt and soaring inflation, and make sure every family has the opportunity to live in a safe community, get a quality education and live the American dream.
