The Milei administration in Argentina is calling on the Biden administration to change its approach with the Maduro regime in Venezuela. Recent negotiations between the U.S. and Venezuela have gained considerable criticism. Florida Senators Marco Rubio (R) and Rick Scott (R) are endorsing the change in relations, calling it “reckless & naïve.”

After President Joe Biden (D) announced that the U.S. would be removing sanctions against Venezuela, response from lawmakers was divided. Republicans outright denounced the decision, while Democrats were hopeful but wary. After the fact, the decision to loosen sanctions has been seen as a failure, leading to the Maduro regime cracking down on opposition leadership as well as being emboldened to launch an invasion of the neighboring Guyana.

During her speech at the Conservative Political Action Convention (CPAC), Patricia Bullrich, the Minister of Security, announced that she would be asking the Biden administration to change its approach to the Maduro regime, warning that the U.S. government should not be supporting any dictatorships. Instead, she argued that the U.S. should do everything in its power to preserve democratic values.

Taking to X to share their support of the request of change in policy, the Florida Senators agreed that the U.S. should change its relationship with Venezuela.

“Important to see our democratic partner, Argentina, speak out against the Biden Administration’s reckless & naïve policy towards Venezuela,” Rubio shared on social media. “Other countries should follow suit and recognize the threat posted by the criminal Maduro narco-regime to our hemisphere.”

Echoing in Senator Rubio’s remark, Senator Scott also urged the Biden Administration to make the necessary changes.

“Glad to see Argentina doing what’s right and standing up for democracy. Biden’s weak appeasement policies are empowering dictators like Maduro,” he said.

“He needs to reinstitute sanctions IMMEDIATELY to stand with the people of Venezuela and hold Maduro accountable.”
