Senate Democrats Block Sen. Rick Scott's Bill to Expose Biden Admin’s Impact on Rising Energy Costs

July 20, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Rick Scott asked for unanimous consent on the Senate floor to pass his bill, the GAS PRICE Act, which would direct the Energy Information Administration (EIA) to report to Congress any policy or rule set by the Biden administration which raises energy costs for American families. Senate Democrats blocked its passage.

In October 2021, Senate Democrats also blocked Senator Scott’s legislation so they could keep Americans in the dark as to why energy prices continue to rise.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Joe Biden has done everything in his power to destroy American energy independence. Now, Americans are paying $4.46 per gallon for gas and are forced to make impossible choices, like whether they should put gas in their cars or food on the table for their kids. Sadly, the Biden administration has shown ZERO interest in fixing this urgent problem. That’s why I asked my colleagues to pass my GAS PRICE Act. We should all want Congress be informed when a new policy or rule causes energy costs for American families to rise. Of course, Democrats blocked my bill’s passage because they will do anything to cover up the disastrous impacts Joe Biden’s Green New Deal agenda is having on American families. It’s shameful, but I refuse to stop fighting for American energy independence and against progressive policies that are hurting working families.”
