“Parents are the most powerful voices in this country”
WASHINGTON — Yesterday, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) hosted a roundtable discussion during National School Choice Week with his Senate colleagues and parents from across the country to discuss how parents’ rights are under attack under the Biden administration. The conversation focused on preserving parents’ rights, upholding Title IX, fighting indoctrination in schools, and increasing competition to improve educational outcomes.
“A child’s first teacher is their mom and dad,” said Senator Tuberville.“During my career, I saw the downfall of the nuclear family. […] The cost of education has gone up, but the quality has gone down. We have to put pressure on schools that aren’t teaching our kids – a child’s education shouldn’t be up to their zip code.”
“Parents are the most powerful voices in this country, and you have to speak up. […] Parents are responsible for their kids,” said Senator Tuberville. “Our kids are the future, they’re the number one commodity that we have.”

Senator Tuberville was joined by Sens. Ted Budd (R-NC), Katie Britt (R-AL), Roger Marshall (R-KS), and Eric Schmitt (R-MO).
BACKGROUND:
As a former coach, mentor, and educator for more than 40 years, Senator Tuberville is committed to promoting educational opportunities for students.
He emphasized the need for school choice in remarks on the Senate floor, and he called on the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to reconsider proposed rules to redefine the Charter School Program (CSP) that would strip parents of the ability to choose the best school for their child. Senator Tuberville introduced the Children Have Opportunities in Classrooms Everywhere (CHOICE) Act to allow low-income families with children in grades K-12 to use federal education funds for educational options that best fit their needs. Additionally, he cosponsored the bipartisan National Charter School Week Resolution, promoting charter schools across the country. Finally, Senator Tuberville joined legislation to designate a “Religious Education Week” to celebrate religious education in the United States.
Yesterday, Senator Tuberville also advocated for school choice on the Senate floor.
