LIST: Temporary shelters as wildfires rip through Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Shelters have opened up around Oregon as wildfire infernos fueled by dry winds rip through hundreds of thousands of acres across the state in a “once-in-a-generation event,” according to Gov. Kate Brown.

As of Friday, an estimated 500,000 reside in evacuation zones, with 40,000 forced to flee their homes. Since Monday, temporary shelters have opened up across the state.

The Red Cross is providing support and assistance throughout the state. The complete list of Red Cross locations is at the bottom of this article.

This list is arranged alphabetically by county.

Benton County

Although there are no fires or evacuations in place for Benton County residents as of Wednesday at 3 p.m., temporary emergency shelters have been opened after Benton received a mutual aid request from Linn County.

The Benton County Fairgrounds are able to host cars, RVs and livestock trailers. Officials at the fairgrounds are also accepting donations for those impacted by the wildfires in western Oregon.

Clackamas County

The temporary evacuation point at Clackamas County Community College in Oregon City is being moved since it’s under Level 2 evacuation orders. Evacuees are now asked to go to the Clackamas Town Center where the Red Cross has set up a temporary evacuation site. The Oregon Convention Center is also a temporary shelter. Livestock animals can be taken to the Clatsop County Fairgrounds, Columbia County Fairgrounds, Hood River Fairgrounds, Oregon State Fair and Expo Center, St Paul Rodeo Grounds and Yamhill County fairgrounds.

Deschutes County

Beachie Creek and Lionshead Fires

The Beachie Creek and Lionshead fires have devastated communities in the Santiam Canyon area. Those who evacuated further into Marion County are asked to go to the Oregon State Fairgrounds, while residents who went to Deschutes County are asked to go to the Deschutes County Fairgrounds for shelter.

Lane County

The Holiday Farm Fire burning near the Eugene-Springfield metro area is triggering evacuations after devastating communities, including Blue River. People were asked to shelter at Springfield High School; however, a new temporary evacuation point has been established at Silke Field. The Cottage Grove Masonic Hall is also open to those who have fled from their homes.

Lincoln County

Those impacted by the Echo Mountain and Kimberling Mountain Road fires are asked to go to the Newport Rec Center. The Red Cross moved locations for logistical reasons. Lincoln County Fairgrounds will take all animals that are not dogs or cats. The Lincoln County Commons is taking livestock animals. Supplies for companion animals are available at the Lincoln County Animals Shelter’s entrance.

Linn County

The Linn County Fairgrounds is open for those who have evacuated from the Santiam Canyon fires; however, they are at max capacity for livestock sheltering. The fairground is also accepting donations at its Santiam Building, including donations of food, water, hygiene products, bedding and clothing, along with pet and livestock supplies.

Multnomah County

No evacuation orders have been issued for the city of Portland; however, in neighboring Clackamas County, the cities of Estacada and Molalla are under Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders, while Oregon City and Canby are under Level 2 “Get Set” orders.

The Oregon Convention Center in Portland is being opened as an evacuee shelter for those displaced by the fires, according to Metro officials.

Also, the City of Portland and the Multnomah County Joint Office of Homeless Services opened additional shelter capacity for those experiencing homelessness.
