Ahead of School Choice Week, Sen. Scott and Superintendent Ellen Weaver Visit Charleston Classical School

CHARLESTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) was joined by South Carolina Education Superintendent Ellen Weaver for a tour of Charleston Classical School in North Charleston. Sen. Scott and Supt. Weaver also met with students and parents from Beautiful Gate Center, which provides educational opportunities for children and youth with developmental disabilities and autism.

The school visit kicked off Senator Scott’s celebration of National School Choice Week, which begins next week. A key pillar of the senator’s Opportunity Agenda is innovation in education, to ensure all families have access to a quality education no matter their zip code.

“Like so many children growing up in poverty, I moved from school to school throughout my childhood, attending four different elementary schools by the fourth grade,” said Senator Scott. “I know firsthand the life-changing impact of a quality education, and I’ve witnessed the miracles that can happen when parents have the choice my mother never did. A good education is the closest thing to magic in America. It creates viable options for all families regardless of socioeconomic status. By equipping and empowering families with the ability to choose educational opportunities best suited for their children – public charter schools, parochial schools, homeschooling and more – we are prioritizing the success of students and our nation.”
