Senator Scott Supports DNI Nominee

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the statement below after voting in support of former U.S. Senator Dan Coats to be Director of National Intelligence. Coats was confirmed by the Senate 86-10:

“Intelligence is the first line of defense in preventing attacks on our soil, and a critical countermeasure to helping prevent dangerous individuals from causing harm. The Director of National Intelligence has a monumental task of overseeing our intelligence entities and ensuring they are structured in a way that makes us more proactive in combatting terrorism. Senator Dan Coats, an Army veteran, former U.S. Ambassador, and former member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, is exceptionally qualified to serve as our next Director of National Intelligence, and I look forward to working with him in this new role.”
