Dear Friend,
Law Enforcement Roundtable in Grand Junction
I held a roundtable with firefighters from Grand Junction and police from Grand Junction, Palisade, and Fruita in Grand Junction this week. It is critical that our first responders have the resources they need to fight the opioid epidemic. We were able to discuss my legislation to combat the opioid crisis, as well as my bill providing funding to law enforcement for body armor to keep them safe. I appreciate the insight I gained at the roundtable about the challenges law enforcement face toward the opioid epidemic and I will continue to fight this crisis.

Holding Opioid Manufacturers Accountable
Recently, I introduced the bipartisan Accountability in Opioid Advertising Act. As the fight against opioids continues, it's crucial to make sure that advertisements for medication are accurate and transparent. We have to do more to make sure individuals understand what they are taking and the effects it may have. This legislation establishes greater oversight so that the FDA is able to review advertising and other promotion materials for opioids.

Jordan Cove Roundtable
I hosted a roundtable focusing on the importance of the Jordan Cove project recently in Grand Junction. This project would take liquified natural gas and turn it into fuel exports, which would create new jobs in Colorado and a great source of energy in the United States.

Meeting with Coloradans Around the State
Last week, I met with many Coloradans across the state to discuss a variety of important bipartisan issues. I met with law enforcement officers Sheriff Steve Reams from Weld County and Sheriff Fred McKee from Delta County, along with veterans as part of the Stan Cass Memorial Honor Flight, the last of the Northern Colorado Honor Flights.
Below are a few pictures from my meetings.
Bureau of Land Management Roundtable in Grand Junction
I held a roundtable discussion last week about moving the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Headquarters out of Washington, DC and to Colorado. I will continue my work with the Department of Interior to push my legislation that aims to make moving the BLM headquarters West a reality. It's important we all work together to recognize Grand Junction as an excellent location to consider for any potential move.
Bipartisan Cyber Activity Legislation
I've introduced the Cyber Deterrence and Response Act with Senator Coons, a bipartisan bill that aims to deter and respond to state-sponsored cyber activity targeting the United States. This legislation will help the Administration impose significant costs against cyber actors, such as state-sponsored actors, around the world that threaten our economy and pose a national security risk.
Speaking at Club 20
I was proud to attend Club 20 this past weekend. I had the opportunity to discuss water conservation efforts, moving the Bureau of Land Management headquarters to the West, and recreational opportunities in the area. It was great to see so many local leaders at one of the most important traditions in western Colorado.
Calling for the Release of Reuters Journalists in Burma
I released a joint statement with Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) last week urging the Burmese government to release Wa Lone ad Kyaw Soe Oo, two Reuters journalists who have been imprisoned since December, 2017. These two journalists have been jailed for simply doing their job when they investigated the killings of Rohingya villagers by Burmese security forces. Unless they are freed, I encourage the Treasury Department to consider imposing sanctions on the high ranking Burmese officials who participated in jailing these reporters.
