Hello everyone,
For too long, our country has invested everywhere but America, sending jobs overseas to increase profits for billion dollar corporations and allowing for roads and bridges across our country to fall into disrepair.
The Infrastructure Law, which Congress passed into law last year, changed that — and we’ve started to see the benefits here in our state. In the last few months, we’ve welcomed funding to Colorado to speed up construction of the Ark Valley Conduit which will bring clean water to Southeastern Colorado, decrease congestion on I-70 at Floyd Hill, create jobs cleaning up orphaned oil and gas wells across the state, and support critical wildfire resiliency projects.
And just this week, the Biden administration announced two more investments from the Infrastructure Law. We welcomed news from the Environmental Protection Agency that four Colorado school districts – in Grand, Elbert, Las Animas, and Alamosa counties – are receiving funding to replace their older school buses with lower-emission and zero-emission models, both keeping our air clean for our kids and building our clean energy economy.
And thanks to the historic $65 billion investment I helped secure to bring affordable, high speed internet to every American, Eastern Colorado is getting $18 million to connect families, farms, and businesses from the Department of Agriculture’s ReConnect Program.
These investments will not only create good-paying jobs, but they will also help us meet our clean energy goals, modernize our infrastructure, and protect our forests and watersheds for the next generation of Coloradans.
Sincerely,
Michael
CALLING TO DESIGNATE NATIONAL WARRIOR CALL DAY
Next month, we’ll observe Veterans Day by expressing our deep gratitude for those who have served in our Armed Forces. As a nation, we have an obligation to support the men and women in uniform who have sacrificed so much to serve our country and keep us safe.
I joined my bipartisan colleagues in supporting a resolution establishing National Warrior Call Day. Celebrated just days after Veterans Day, it would encourage all Coloradans to reach out to the veterans in their communities to let them know they’re not alone.
I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure our servicemembers and veterans have the suicide prevention resources and mental health care they need.
DELIVERING RELIEF FOR MARSHALL FIRE SURVIVORS
Coloradans are all too familiar with the devastation and destruction that wildfires can cause. Last year’s Marshall Fire was no different, with losses now expected to surpass $2 billion, making it the 10th most expensive wildfire in U.S. history.
The Coloradans affected by this fire need assistance as they continue to rebuild. Since January, I’ve pushed in Washington to make sure that Marshall Fire survivors have the federal resources and support they need. Earlier this year, I wrote to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support Colorado's request to directly administer $6 million to help fire survivors rebuild their homes. This week, I welcomed the news that HUD heeded my call and that these community development funds will begin to be administered directly from the state to residents.
COMBATING ANTISEMITISM
On Thursday, we marked four years since the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh – the deadliest antisemitic attack in American history.
Recent antisemitic incidents remind us that we need to come together to confront antisemitism and protect the freedom and safety of every American, regardless of their beliefs. Hate has no place in our country.
ADDRESSING DELIVERY DELAYS AND IMPROVING USPS SERVICE FOR OUR RURAL AND MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES
Millions of Americans rely on the United States Postal Service (USPS) to receive bills, prescriptions, and vital federal benefits like Social Security. Unfortunately in Colorado, I hear too many stories of residents in our rural and mountain communities going days without mail delivery. It is critical that USPS maintains its delivery standards and honors its commitment to serve every community.
That’s why I helped pass the Postal Service Reform Act to improve service and reliability. And this week, I urged the USPS to prioritize improvements to on-time delivery, service, and operations as the agency implements the new law.
