A message from Senator Michael Bennet

Hello everyone,

This week, I'm on a bipartisan Congressional Delegation to the Middle East and North Africa to reinforce our bipartisan commitment to the Abraham Accords, historic peace agreements to foster normalization, cooperation and integration across the region. Over the week, we're visiting member countries of the Accords, including Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco, to explore opportunities to build on the agreements and advance progress across key issues like security and energy.

On one of our first stops, we met with Coloradan servicemembers in Bahrain. They continue to make Colorado proud, and I let them know how grateful we are for their service.

Sincerely,

ADDRESSING RISING HOUSING COSTS FOR WILDLAND FIREFIGHTERS

Wildland firefighters risk their lives to protect our communities. They have a difficult and dangerous job — and they often work and live in remote areas where the only viable housing comes from the federal government.

This week, I asked the Biden Administration for answers on the rising housing costs they face. As Colorado and the American West face historic threats from wildfire, I will continue to advocate for the firefighters who put themselves at risk to keep us safe.

EXPANDING ACCESS TO PRESCHOOL

Early learning programs can lay a vital foundation to help propel kids to success in school. But wherever I go in Colorado, I hear about the rising costs of child care and early learning programs, leaving some families and kids unable to access crucial support.

Now, eligible Colorado families can receive at least 15 hours per week of free, voluntary preschool for 4 year olds through the Universal Preschool program and eligible 3-year-olds can receive 10 free hours per week. This is a major step forward for Colorado families.

HOME HEATING COST ASSISTANCE

No one should have to worry about how they're going to heat their home this winter -- especially as parts of our state have seen nearly record-setting snowfall and frigid temperatures.

With rising energy costs straining family budgets, help is available for eligible Colorado families and seniors to pay for their home heating costs.
