A message from Senator Michael Bennet

1 BIG THING: SUPPORTING UKRAINE

What’s happening: Senate Republicans have made it clear that they won’t support essential funding for Ukraine and Israel without addressing the situation on our southern border.

What I believe: We need to fix our broken immigration system and provide support for our allies as they defend democracy across the world. That’s why I’m working with colleagues to come together and reach a solution.

What’s ahead: We cannot abandon the Ukrainian people when they are so close to winning this war against the tyrant Vladimir Putin. We also need to support Israel as it defends against Hamas’ terrorism and send desperately-needed aid to civilians in Gaza. Congress must work swiftly in the coming weeks to support our allies – we have no time to waste. Last week, I joined CBS Face the Nation to urge Congress to work together to get this done. Watch my interview below.

2. BRINGING BACK JOBS

What I did: As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I made sure manufacturing tax credits for solar, wind, and renewable energy were included in the Inflation Reduction Act to bring jobs to Colorado and support our national transition to a clean energy economy. Thanks to those tax credits, CS Wind, the world’s largest wind tower manufacturing facility, announced plans earlier this year to expand its operations and create 850 new good-paying jobs in onshore wind manufacturing in Pueblo.

What happened: In August, I toured CS Wind and heard how these investments are giving the company the certainty it needs to lead our country’s transition to a clean energy economy. This week, President Biden traveled to Pueblo to tour CS Wind and see how the Inflation Reduction Act is delivering for Colorado and the country.

What’s next: I’m grateful to have played a part in writing and passing this significant climate legislation, which is supporting local economies across Colorado. I’ll keep working with President Biden and his administration to ensure the benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act reach every corner of our state.

3. IMPROVING ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOOD

What I believe: Every family should have access to fresh, healthy food.

What I did: Last week, I visited The Growhaus – an organization fighting food insecurity for families in Denver. While I was there, I helped distribute food boxes and heard from community members about the important role The Growhaus plays.

What’s next: As Congress begins to write the next Farm Bill, I’m fighting to protect nutrition benefits and other programs which serve as critical lifelines for Colorado families.
