Great news: This week, Congress passed two of my bills with strong bipartisan support:
- Good Samaritan Remediation of Abandoned Hardrock Mines Act: A common sense bill to make it easier for our state, local governments, and nonprofits to clean up abandoned mines that pollute our ecosystems and threaten watersheds in Colorado and across the West.
- Colorado River Salinity Control Fix Act: Legislation to support ongoing efforts to keep water from the Colorado River safe for communities, farmers, ranchers, and water users throughout the entire Basin. As population growth and climate change threaten this precious resource, my bill will help ensure Coloradans have access to clean, reliable water.
What’s next: From cleaning up dangerous pollutants to improving water quality, I will always work to safeguard our state’s natural resources and protect public health. As these bills head to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law, I’m grateful for my colleagues' bipartisan support to help get these bills across the finish line.
2. Enrolling in Health Insurance
What’s happening: The annual open enrollment period for marketplace health insurance ends on Sunday, December 15, for coverage starting on January 1. During this period, Coloradans can enroll, renew, or switch health plans for the coming year.

3. In The News This Week
- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that it will permanently increase automatic extensions for immigrant and asylum-seeker work permits. I’m glad the Biden administration heard our calls to eliminate red tape for the sake of U.S. employers and the workers who keep our economy strong.
- Colorado’s CoBank will receive $450 million as part of a major nationwide investment from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This will help ensure our power providers can deliver clean, reliable energy to Colorado’s rural communities.
- This week, we welcomed the two newest members of the Senate, Adam Schiff and Andy Kim - the first Korean American senator in our country's history. I look forward to working with both of these incredible public servants to tackle our country’s most pressing issues.
