Celebrating Black History Month
This month: February is Black History Month, an opportunity to recognize the countless contributions of Black Americans throughout our country’s history – including efforts to make America more free, democratic, and just.
Learn more: Here in Colorado, the extraordinary efforts and achievements of African Americans have helped author pivotal chapters of our state’s history. From Justina Ford to Hattie McDaniel to the settlers of Dearfield, learn more about Black history in Colorado here. I look forward to uplifting more of these important stories throughout the month.
2. Investing in Our Outdoor Recreation Economy

Skiing in the Rocky Mountains last year.
What I believe: From A-Basin to Wolf Creek, Colorado’s National Forests are home to some of the best skiing in the world. We must do everything we can to support Colorado’s outdoor recreation economy and maintain our iconic landscapes for future generations to enjoy.
What I did: Alongside Wyoming Senator John Barrasso, I reintroduced bipartisan legislation to enable our state’s National Forests to retain millions of dollars of ski fees within their boundaries. These dollars will help improve Colorado’s ski areas, support National Forest recreation management, and meet the needs of our mountain communities. I look forward to working across the aisle to get this important bill signed into law.
3. Pushing for Answers from the Trump Administration

What’s happening: Within weeks of coming into office, President Trump and his cabinet have taken a series of unprecedented actions that threaten our national security, breach Americans’ privacy, and undermine the United States on the global stage.
What I’m doing: This week, I joined my Senate colleagues to demand answers from the Trump Administration and sound the alarm on their dangerous efforts:
- With my colleagues from the Senate Intelligence Committee, I pushed the Trump Administration to address the Department of Government Efficiency’s access to classified data, including the sensitive personal information of Americans.
- Alongside 36 senators, I called on U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to address the Administration’s shortsighted efforts to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development, an agency that is critical for U.S. national security and saves lives worldwide
What’s next: I will always demand transparency and accountability from our country’s highest leaders, regardless of who is president.
4. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK
- I was glad to help secure funding for a new Eagle County treatment center that will provide mental health services for Colorado’s central mountain communities. Mental and behavioral health is health, and it’s time we treated it that way.
- I reintroduced legislation to ensure the federal government makes good on its promise to finish the Arkansas Valley Conduit for Southeastern Coloradans. Once completed, this project will deliver a safe and reliable water supply to 39 communities and over 50,000 Coloradans.
- I met with Douglas County commissioners to discuss our work to tackle the most pressing issues affecting Colorado, including increasingly severe wildfires. Through the use of innovative solutions like wildfire helicopters, Douglas County is helping our state meet these unprecedented challenges.
