Marking 100 Days of the Trump Administration

What’s happening: Tuesday marked 100 days of President Trump’s presidential term. From launching a trade war that is decimating the economy to emboldening Vladimir Putin's aggression to terminating tens of thousands of critical federal workers, these first 100 days have been a disaster, and the American people are taking notice

What I’m doing: I am committed to using every tool at my disposal to fight back against this administration’s chaos, including shortsighted tariff policies that are driving the U.S. closer and closer to a recession. This week, I spoke with MSNBC’s Alex Witt about the effect of President Trump’s trade war on Colorado and small businesses across the country. Watch our full conversation here.

2. Protecting Americans’ Right to Vote

What I did: This week, I spoke on the Senate floor in opposition to the SAVE Act, legislation that would severely restrict online registration and mail-in voter registration, and eliminate voter registration drives. This bill would make it harder for tens of millions of American citizens to exercise their right to vote, including women and voters in rural communities nationwide.

What I believe:
Colorado has one of the most secure election systems of any state in the country and one of the highest voter turnout rates nationwide. Instead of wasting time and taxpayer dollars on the SAVE Act, Congress should implement Colorado’s practices across the country.

3. Fighting for Colorado’s Critical Firefighting Workforce

What’s happening:
In Colorado, the U.S. Forest Service is vital to mitigate wildfire risk and ensure the health of our forests. As Colorado and the West face a hotter and drier future, we need these dedicated public servants now more than ever. However, President Trump’s mass termination of land management personnel has substantially weakened our nation’s firefighting workforce.

What I believe:
This week, I joined my Colorado colleagues to urge U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to reinstate roughly 3,000 Forest Service employees who are specially trained to respond to wildfire incidents. As we approach peak fire season, we must ensure these critical personnel are restored without delay. Read more here.

4. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK

  • I reintroduced a bipartisan bill to renew lifesaving research to prevent premature delivery and give mothers and babies a healthy start in life. We need more research to understand the causes of preterm births and ensure moms have access to the care they need, especially in underserved communities where preterm birth rates are disproportionately high.
  • This week, I joined my Senate colleagues to urge President Trump to reverse cuts to AmeriCorps. These actions will prevent the agency from continuing to deliver critical services, which include supporting veterans, fighting wildfires, tutoring in schools, combating the fentanyl epidemic, and more.
  • The last week of April is World Immunization Week, a reminder that global immunizations have saved 154 million lives in the last 50 years – one life every 10 seconds.
