Fighting Republican Cuts to Public Broadcasting

What’s happening: Senate Republicans forced over $1 billion in cuts to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to appease President Trump. This is a direct attack on local news outlets that are often the only source of reliable information for Colorado’s rural and Tribal communities.
What this means for Colorado: Because of these Republican cuts, Coloradans could lose access to accurate and independent news, educational programming, and life-saving weather and emergency alerts – all free of charge. Without federal funding, 1 in 5 NPR member stations could shut down. Local affiliates like Rocky Mountain PBS serve an average of 3 million monthly viewers, and Colorado Public Radio averages almost 2 million monthly listeners and reaches 90% of our state’s population.
What I’m doing: This week, I voted NO and spoke out against Republicans’ dangerous cuts to public broadcasting. I will keep fighting these cuts every step of the way.
2. Combating Corruption at the Highest Levels of Government

What happened: Since taking office, President Trump has made tens of millions of dollars by issuing his own cryptocurrencies, including a memecoin and a stablecoin, a type of crypto pegged to the dollar. Individuals and companies looking for favors from his administration have spent enormous amounts of money buying these cryptocurrencies. This week alone, President Trump stands to make over $90 million from his memecoin.
What I believe: Enough is enough. We shouldn’t have to wonder if the President of the United States is favoring the interests of a foreign nation or a private crypto exchange because he stands to personally profit. Americans agree: federal elected officials should not profit from personal crypto schemes while in office.
What I’m doing: I introduced an amendment to the GENIUS Act to prevent the President and Vice President from issuing stablecoins, and introduced legislation to extend this ban to all elected officials and federal candidates. It is our duty to call out this illicit profiteering and hold our elected leaders accountable.
3. Demanding the Trump Administration Uphold Due Process for Immigrants

What’s happening: The Trump Administration is weaponizing immigration court hearings to trap and arrest noncriminal immigrants and deport them without adequate due process.
What I believe: These tactics represent a complete disregard for proper immigration enforcement. They do nothing to target criminals or improve public safety, and instead redirect staff and resources towards targeting immigrants who are following the law and showing up for their day in court.
What I’m doing: I joined 22 of my Senate colleagues to demand answers from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons about the Trump administration’s efforts to weaponize immigration court hearings. We must keep fighting for a fair immigration system that upholds due process for all.
4. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK
- The Republican Budget Bill rolls back the historic progress we made towards building a clean energy future. As a result, Coloradans will pay higher energy costs. I urge every Coloradan to take advantage of these clean energy tax credits before they expire.
- My office continues to monitor the wildfires on the Western Slope. We are staying engaged with local officials to ensure our communities have the resources they need. For more information and resources, visit Colorado’s Wildfire Information Resource Center.
- I reintroduced the Tribal Access to Clean Water Act. Access to water is a fundamental human right, yet Colorado’s Tribal communities still lack access to clean water. This bill will fulfill the federal government’s promise to provide these communities with the clean water they deserve.
