Hearing from Southwest Coloradans

What happened: I was glad to speak with hundreds of Coloradans at my town hall in Durango this week. Thank you to everyone who showed up to make their voices heard on the issues most important to Colorado, from protecting children’s access to health care to the future of our democracy.
What I believe: The best part of my job is coming home to speak with constituents about the issues they face and how we can make Colorado stronger. I look forward to taking these conversations with me back to Washington as I continue to fight for our state.
2. Visiting Coloradans in Their Communities

Meeting with Coloradans in the Gunnison River, Montrose, and Ouray
What I did: I traveled throughout the state this week to see firsthand how Coloradans are working to improve their communities – and hear what I can do to help.
In Delta: I spent time on the Gunnison River with local leaders to celebrate the reintroduction of my bipartisan GORP Act. The bill was carefully crafted with leaders in Delta County and will preserve boating access on the Gunnison River and protect public lands in the North Fork Valley.
In Montrose: I spoke with young adults about the future they are trying to build and how to best support rural communities. For their sake, we must keep fighting to build an economy that works for everyone.
In Ouray: I heard from local leaders about their efforts to improve access to affordable housing and childcare for rural Colorado families. I appreciated the opportunity to meet with a childcare provider and discuss the ongoing work to address these challenges.
3. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK
- I led my Colorado Democratic congressional colleagues in urging the Trump Administration to renew continuous health care coverage protections for Colorado children. Without continuous enrollment, children can fall in and out of health coverage, leading to gaps in access to health care during a critical stage of development.
- I urged the Trump administration to release $140 million in previously awarded funding for projects across Colorado, including the Shoshone project, to help fight the Colorado River crisis. These projects were funded through the Inflation Reduction Act to help mitigate the effects of the 25-year drought in the Colorado River Basin.
- I announced that a funding bill passed by the Senate included $25 million for projects across Colorado. If these provisions pass Congress, this funding will support projects like a food pantry in Wellington and a police station in Fairplay.
