Continuing to Fight Back Against Trump’s Reckless War on Iran

Discussing Trump’s War on Iran with 9NEWS’s Kyle Clark
What’s happening: On Tuesday, President Trump issued an ultimatum stating “Iran’s whole civilization will die tonight” unless the regime complied with his demands to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran closed only after Trump launched his war. He threatened war crimes to fix a crisis he created. While a two-week ceasefire with Iran appears to now be in place, the President could plunge us back into war later this month. Under the ceasefire, Iran also continues to put a chokehold on traffic through the Strait. This is a worse situation for the United States and our allies than before Trump started his war – without either a clear strategy or honest justifications. Americans continue to pay the price for Trump’s recklessness. Gasoline prices are soaring – up over 30 percent in Colorado. The Iranian regime is more hardline than ever. Russia is cashing in from high oil prices. China is gaining ground while our focus and defense capabilities shift away from Asia.
What I’m doing: This week, I spoke out against Trump’s actions in Iran with 9NEWS’s Kyle Clark. It’s true that Iran’s regime is dangerous, which is why I’ve supported harsh measures against them for years. But we cannot give another penny to Trump's war. Republicans must join us in passing the upcoming War Powers Resolution to end this chaos. We need to stop Trump from playing the world’s judge, jury, and executioner. Now.

3. IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK
- I joined my Senate Democratic colleagues to demand answers from President Trump on his decision to ease sanctions on Russian and Iranian oil exports. This is a desperate attempt to bring down energy prices that Trump spiked with his unauthorized war in Iran, despite experts’ warnings. Easing these sanctions is unjustifiable as public reports indicate that Russia may be sharing intelligence that Iran uses to target U.S. troops – all while Russia continues waging its unprovoked war against Ukraine. I will continue doing all I can to push back against the President’s recklessness, which makes us all less safe.
- Congratulations to the DU Pioneers on making it to the NCAA Men's Hockey National Championship Game! Colorado is so proud and we will be cheering you on this Saturday. Go get ‘em, Pios!
