| Happy Presidents’ Day! Presidents’ Day, which falls between the birthdays of two of our most revered presidents, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, recognizes the lives, lessons and legacies of all United States presidents. I am thankful for their leadership and for all who have answered the call to serve our nation as President. .png)
_____________________________________________________________ Defense Secretary Coming to Minot U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper will visit the Minot Air Force Base on Wednesday for a tour of the base and its facilities. I invited the Secretary to the state during his confirmation process last year, and I look forward to joining him as he sees firsthand the impressive work of the Airmen at Minot. The Minot Air Force Base is our nation’s shield. Its very existence makes our world a safer place. Having the Secretary visiting in February this early into his term demonstrates Minot’s important role in protecting our country. _____________________________________________________________ Supporting Our Veterans  I joined President Trump in the Oval Office for the signing of the "Supporting Veterans in STEM Careers Act." This bipartisan legislation will help veterans re-enter the workforce by making them eligible for National Science Foundation programs that will help them pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. President Trump is a strong ally for our veterans and this bill is a win for the those who want good jobs and the businesses who want good workers.

War Powers Resolution  The Constitution makes it clear Thursday’s War Powers Resolution, which I opposed but passed in the Senate, is unnecessary and seems designed to embarrass President Trump. An unintended consequence of this resolution could also be demoralizing to our troops, who are asked to protect our country but could be left wondering whether their Commander-in-Chief can protect them. The troops have our back, and they deserve to know the President can have theirs. I discussed this on Fox News with Ed Henry after the vote. _____________________________________________________________
Discussing North Dakota’s Bases with Military Commanders U.S. Strategic Command Commander Admiral Charles Richard and U.S. Northern Command Commander General Terrence O’Shaughnessy testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee last week. We spoke about developing the newly created Space Force, and how North Dakota’s military bases can best prepare for any potential Northern Tier conflict. _____________________________________________________________
Point of View with Chris Berg  I joined Chris Berg on Point of View where we discussed topics from farm aid and ongoing trade deals to monitoring the coronavirus and voting on the War Powers Resolution. Watch our full discussion by clicking the picture below.

_____________________________________________________________ New Legislation on Immigration and Banking Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn led a group of our colleagues to introduce the bicameral “Stop Greenlighting Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants Act.” States granting licenses to illegal immigrants undermine our immigration laws and threaten public safety. Our legislation imposes real consequences on states which ignore federal law but still take millions in federal funds. It’s a commonsense step toward enforcing the law and making America safer.
I joined Florida Senator Marco Rubio and several of our colleagues to introduce the "Financial Defense of Industrial Contractors Act," which would combat political discrimination by some of the largest banks operating in the United States. Some big banks are weaponizing their economic strength to discriminate against companies who contract with our immigration law enforcement operations. If they would like the right to deny service to certain companies, the federal government should have the right to withdraw its taxpayer-funded guarantees.

 North Dakotans in Washington
Edmore High School students visited Washington as part of the Close Up program.
I am always happy to hear from our National Guard service members. Stephen Trautman, Chuck Kasin, and Chuck Votava, from the North Dakota National Guard
Enlisted Association, met me in the Capitol to talk about duty status reform and Tricare for early retirees.

It was great to catch up with North Dakota National Guard Adjutant General, Major General Al Dohrmann at the National Guard Caucus Breakfast Tuesday in Washington. _____________________________________________________________
