My highs and lows this week are coming to you from the Operation Gigawatt Summit in Park City, where I joined policymakers, investors, and industry leaders for important discussions on an energy future that is affordable, reliable, and clean. We need every electron we can get in order to meet growing energy demands, which is why an energy-abundance mindset is critical. My high is seeing all this great work happening in Utah, where we’re leading the charge in technologies like geothermal and nuclear, and also in critical minerals.

My low is the recently announced $1.776 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund from the Department of Justice. While the weaponization of government is wrong, trading accountability for broad immunity will only further erode public trust in our institutions. Two wrongs simply don’t make a right.

Regardless of wealth, position, or political influence, no American should be permanently placed beyond the reach of the law. The Fund thwarted plans we had this week to fund the Department of Homeland Security, too.

Have a great weekend, and stay safe.Image

America’s energy leadership is one of our greatest strategic advantages. Senator Curtis, member of the Foreign Relations Committee, cosponsored the Pacific Promotion of Workable Energy Resources (POWER) Act, bipartisan legislation to promote geothermal exploration and production in the Indo-Pacific by leveraging the United States’ expertise as the world leader in geothermal electricity generation capacity.

Dietary supplements are an important part of many Utahns’ health and wellness routines, and are key to making America healthy again. Senators Curtis and Cramer (R-ND) introduced the Dietary Supplements Access Act, which would allow dietary supplements to be purchased using Health Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts, and Health Reimbursement Arrangements. The measure would give families more flexibility to invest in preventive health solutions while helping reduce long-term healthcare costs.

Senators Curtis, member of the Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC); Jim Risch (R-ID), SFRC Chairman; Bernie Moreno (R-OH); and Rick Scott (R-FL) released the following statement on the ongoing violent attempts to destabilize Bolivia:

“We strongly condemn the ongoing violent attempts to undermine the democratically elected government in Bolivia, and the humanitarian crisis the violent protests have created.

“The United States strongly supports the democratic institutions of Bolivia, including the democratically elected government of President Rodrigo Paz. It’s imperative the international community joins Bolivian efforts to stabilize its economy and promote economic prosperity. Finally, we urge the people of Bolivia to express themselves peacefully as their country takes serious steps to overcome two decades of failed socialist economic policies.”

The Senate passed a bipartisan resolution led by Senators Curtis, Peters (D-MI), Ernst (R-IA), and King (I-ME) to designate May as “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.” The resolution promotes safe practices for the millions of motorcycle riders across America.

“I know firsthand the freedom and enjoyment that come with riding on America’s roads. Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month is an important reminder that we must properly educate riders and that we all share responsibility for keeping our roads safe, especially heading into the summer months.”

Senator Curtis shared the following message in honor of Utah’s first Adventure Safe Day:

“Some of life’s best memories are made by adventuring with family and friends outdoors. As we head into the summer season and recognize Utah’s first Adventure Safe Day, it’s a good reminder that preparation, responsibility, and thoughtfulness help make every outdoor recreation opportunity fun and safe.”

There is a lot more bipartisan, well-meaning legislating happening in Washington than you may see on social media or in the news. Senator Curtis joined Senator Kelly (D-AZ) for a conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash on efforts to bridge the divide in Congress. During the interview, the senators debuted their PSA encouraging Americans to put down their phones, talk to one another, and “disagree better.”

Applying for federal compensation programs can be stressful—especially when sensitive personal documents are involved. One Utahn applied for the RECA Downwinders program and became concerned when their mailed application package was lost in transit. After they reached out to Senator Curtis’ office, our casework team helped confirm the documents had arrived and were being processed. With their permission, we’re sharing their story to show how our office can help provide answers, reassurance, and support during uncertain federal processes.

If you can't get an answer from a federal agency in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, our office may be able to help resolve a problem or get you the information you need. While we cannot guarantee you a favorable outcome, we will do our best to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem.
