Fellow Illinoisan,

This week I spoke on the Senate floor about an issue that impacts everyone in America who uses the internet: net neutrality. The concept of net neutrality is as simple as it is important. It means that all content on the internet is treated equally so it can remain an open and freely accessible platform for users and an equal playing field for businesses.

Unfortunately, net neutrality is under attack by President Trump and the FCC. If they have their way, they’ll let the huge telecomm companies put a price on content, speed, and overall quality of the internet service you can get. This is wrong, and it will hurt consumers, businesses, and the hardworking families those businesses support.

DURBIN SPEAKS ON SENATE FLOOR ABOUT PROTECTING NET NEUTRALITY

Many members of Congress are working to ensure this administration can’t threaten the existence of a free and open internet. That’s why this week we filed a petition that will force the Senate to vote next week on net neutrality. Thankfully, we have a chance to save the internet, but we still need one more Republican vote before the vote next week. I urge you to continue making your voices heard in the coming days.

I want to thank the hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans who have emailed and called my office about this critically important issue. I hear you and I’m hopeful with your continued support we can win this fight to save the internet.

Sincerely,

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin
