West Virginia Spotlight

Roane-Calhoun Drug Court Graduate, Ronald L. Hart, Jr.

Every drug court graduation in our beautiful state is a victory.  Drug court programs are important opportunities to overcome addiction and make a major change in the quality of life for participants and their families.

Ronald is the most recent graduate of the Roane-Calhoun Adult Drug Court.  During his time in the program, he showcased an outstanding attitude and unparalleled determination, earning him the nickname, "Mr. Fantastic," which is truly deserved. My Regional Coordinator, Justin Ray, attended his graduation ceremony last week. It is an honor to congratulate him for reaching this milestone and I wish the very best to him and his family.

Appalachian Regional Commission grants will support economic development projects in West Virginia

Recently I was proud to announce that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded a total of $892,820 to support economic development projects throughout West Virginia.

The support the Appalachian Regional Commission provides for economic and community development projects throughout West Virginia is vitally important.  This funding will improve critical infrastructure in Spencer and support maintenance projects for the state forests we all cherish. These are important investments in our state and I will continue to advocate for ARC.

Project details below:

  • The City of Spencer will receive $800,000 for wastewater system improvements. The City of Spencer will make critical repairs to its wastewater plant and collection system, bringing the system into compliance with current quality standards. In addition to ARC funds, local sources will provide $704,000 bringing the total project funding to $1,504,000.
  • The West Virginia Division of Forestry (WV DOF) will receive $92,820 for timber and forest products inventory of six West Virginia state forests. The project will develop the essential component of a long-term plan for sustainable forest management for the six forests. In addition to the ARC funds, the total project costs $182,000 includes $89,180 from the West Virginia Department of Commerce.
