On the Road

Regional Coordinator Mary Jo Guidi visited Bethlehem Elementary School's Kindergarten and First Grade classes in honor of last week's National Read Across America Week.

Case Manager Terri Berkley attended Service Academy training in Annapolis, MD and had the pleasure of meeting Ellie McClung.  I had nominated Ellie as a part of my Service Academy Program to attend the U.S. Naval Academy and she is now working hard as a junior at the esteemed institution.

How May We Help You?

I truly appreciate the opportunity to hear from my fellow West Virginians. As your U.S. Senator, I am proud to be your voice with government agencies during your time of need. My goal is to provide top-notch customer service for every West Virginian who contacts me, or who may need help.  I have a team of caseworkers in each of my four offices to help you with matters of concern. While I have no direct jurisdiction in the administrative matters of any federal, state, or local agency, I welcome the opportunity to assist you with whatever problem you may be experiencing and ask that full consideration is given to your case.

Ms. Bonnie Oliver of Fairmont contacted the Senator's office regarding her claim for Black Lung benefits on behalf of her husband, Bill Oliver. Mr. Oliver applied for his benefits on December 17, 2016. He unfortunately passed away June of 2018. Ms. Oliver was still fighting for his claim for benefits. Our office was able to contact the U.S. Department of Labor for a response. In February we received a letter from the Department of Labor stating Ms. Oliver had been approved for benefits and received a retroactive payment as well.

Appropriations Requests

The Senate Appropriations Committee helps write the legislation that allocates federal funds to government agencies, departments, and organizations on an annual basis. It is responsible for reviewing the President's budget request, hearing testimony from government officials and other witnesses, and drafting the spending plans for the coming fiscal year.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Manchin ensures that federal spending is targeted towards priorities that strengthen our nation and protect, promote, and benefit West Virginians. Through this role, Senator Manchin helps drive entrepreneurship and innovation in the Mountain State and across the country. He works to ensure that federal agencies are making smart investments with taxpayer dollars in the needs of rural communities, ranging from transportation and communications infrastructure to programs that address opioid abuse and grow small businesses in West Virginia.

Senator Manchin is committed to ensuring that West Virginia’s priorities are addressed through each year’s spending bills. That’s why it’s important to hear from West Virginians like you on what each year’s budget should prioritize. If your organization participates in federal funded programs, please fill out the following form with your appropriations request. Note that requests must comply with Senate rules.

Requests must be submitted by Friday, March 22nd at 5:00 pm.
