ON THE ROAD
We finished the Promise Kept Tour with the Mine Workers District 17 HQ in Charleston. The passage of the Bipartisan American Miners Act was truly a Christmas miracle for so many retired miners and their families, and it has been the honor of my life to fight alongside them.
In addition to celebrating this victory, January is a time to remember the Sago mine disaster where 12 brave souls lost their lives. Every day, 14 years later, my thoughts remain with the families of those men. As I waited day and night with the families to hear their fate, I made a commitment to do everything in my power to prevent an event like Sago from happening again. The memory of this event, and the others like it, continue to fuel my fire in Washington to ensure our miners have access to effective emergency procedures in the event of an accident, and that they receive what they are owed for their years of dangerous work to fuel this country.
We were so very fortunate to celebrate the safe return of the men and women of the 821st Horizontal Construction Company from a deployment in the Middle East. Welcome home!
