ON THE ROAD

This week, Regional Coordinator Ali Mitchell presented Terry Peterson with his Vietnam Service Medal, which he had not received after his honorable service. It was an honor for my office to work on behalf of Mr. Peterson to obtain this long overdue medal. Once again, thank you for your service, Mr. Peterson.

I had a great Skype conversation today with students at Wheeling Central Catholic High School. We talked about the importance of education, the impacts of the opioid epidemic, and how critical it is to learn about candidates and exercise the right to vote in the upcoming elections.

Several of my Regional Coordinators continued the annual tradition of reading to students across the state for National Read Across America week.

Mr. Richard Daugherty from Nitro contacted Senator Manchin’s office for assistance in obtaining a DD214 for his late father, to be used to obtain a military service grave marker.  As a result of Caseworker Sylvia Asbury's inquiries, the National Personnel Records Center was able to locate and send Mr. Daugherty’s father’s DD214.

Key Federal Resources

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $1 MILLION FOR RAINELLE STORM WATER PROJECT

“In recent years, West Virginia has endured multiple weather-related disasters that continue to impact our infrastructure. Although West Virginians have bounced back from these awful disasters, there is still more work to do to rebuild our communities, and the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program plays a crucial role in building resiliency against future disasters. I will continue to work with FEMA to bring funding to West Virginia that will reduce flood risk as well as rebuild communities that have been impacted by weather-related disasters and I will continue to fight to ensure that the federal government is a reliable partner in our ongoing recovery efforts across the state,” said Senator Manchin.

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE NEARLY $3 MILLION FOR MATH TEACHERS ACROSS WEST VIRGINIA

“Teachers are the backbone of our communities and in order for our state to thrive, we must support our teachers in every way possible. It is vital for our teachers to receive continuing education and training, which is why I am pleased that NSF is investing in West Virginia’s teachers so they receive the support they need and deserve to give our future generations a great education,” Senator Manchin said. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for funding that will benefit all of West Virginia’s teachers and students.”

MANCHIN APPLAUDS SENATE APPROVAL OF $8.3 BILLION FOR CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY FUNDING

“Congress has approved $8.3 billion in emergency funding to help ensure that the United States is prepared for the coronavirus outbreak and funds the development of new treatments, boosts funding to purchase and ship medical supplies, and allocates more than $950 million in grants to states and localities for testing and preparedness. I have been closely monitoring the coronavirus disease outbreak and have received several Senate briefings with officials from the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, Food and Drug Administration and others. I will continue to monitor the outbreak and provide as much information as possible to West Virginians so they can help stop the spread of the coronavirus and other infectious diseases. The most important thing West Virginians can do right now is take preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs and follow the advice of our public health professionals,” said Senator Manchin.

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE NEARLY 200K FROM LWCF FOR STATE PARKS ACROSS WEST VIRGINIA

“West Virginia has a rich history and our deep appreciation for our public lands and outdoor playgrounds is at the core of it. I am pleased to partner with the LWCF to provide this investment for two of our parks. West Virginians enjoy our parks and playgrounds regularly, and I am confident that these improvements will make a lasting impact to West Virginians for generations to come,” Senator Manchin said.

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $1 MILLION FOR MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH SERVICES IN WEST VIRGINIA

“I am pleased that HHS is partnering with the West Virginia DHHR to provide quality healthcare to mothers and children across our state. Far too many mothers in West Virginia do not have access to affordable and quality healthcare. No family should ever have to choose between their health and their financial security. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will fight every day so that we can keep West Virginia’s families strong, safe, and healthy,” said Senator Manchin.
